SERVICES

School Outside Support programs focus on violence prevention aimed to create a safe learning environment that promotes healthy relationships and positive behaviors among students.

COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Violence prevention counseling and mental health services are designed to help individuals who are at risk of engaging in violent behavior or have already exhibited violent behavior. These services aim to identify the underlying causes of the violent behavior, address the individual's emotional and psychological needs, and provide support and guidance to prevent future incidents.

Counseling may include techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, anger management, and conflict resolution. These techniques help individuals learn coping strategies and develop healthy communication and problem-solving skills.

Mental health services may involve the assessment and treatment of underlying mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, or personality disorders.

Overall, violence prevention counseling and mental health services are critical in addressing the complex factors that contribute to violent behavior and supporting individuals in developing healthy coping strategies and behaviors.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Conflict resolution in school services refers to programs and interventions designed to help students resolve conflicts and disagreements in a peaceful and productive manner. These services may include:

Mediation: A neutral third-party mediator helps students in conflict to understand each other's feelings and perspectives, and arrive at a mutually acceptable resolution.

Peer mentoring: Trained student leaders work with other students to develop conflict resolution skills and foster a positive school culture.

Restorative justice: A process in which students affected by a conflict come together to discuss the impact of their actions and work to repair relationships.

Counseling and mental health services: School counselors and mental health professionals provide individual and group counseling to students who may be struggling with social, emotional, or mental health issues that contribute to conflict.

By addressing conflicts and disagreements in a positive and proactive way, conflict resolution services can improve school climate and create a safer, more inclusive learning environment.

SAFETY PLANNING

Safety plans for school involve creating safety plans for students who have experienced violence or who are at risk of violence. This may include creating a safety plan for leaving school, going to and from school, or attending school events.

Safety planning is an essential component of school services related to violence prevention. It involves creating a structured plan that addresses potential safety risks and provides guidance on how to respond in case of an emergency or threat. The following are examples of safety measures that schools may implement:

Conduct Security Assessments: Schools should conduct security assessments to identify the potential risks or threats that may pose a danger to students, staff, and visitors.

Implement Safety Protocols: Schools should adopt safety protocols, such as lockdowns, emergency response procedures, and evacuation plans.

Train Students and Staff: Schools should provide regular training to students and staff on how to respond to safety issues, including identifying and reporting suspicious activities.

Increase Physical Security: Schools should improve physical security measures, such as installing surveillance cameras, alarms, and enhancing access control.

Provide Counseling Services: Schools should offer counseling services to students who may be experiencing trauma or stress-related to violence incidents.

Encourage Reporting: Schools should encourage students and staff to report any suspicious activities or threats to school authorities or law enforcement agencies.

Overall, safety planning in schools involves taking a proactive approach to address any potential threats and provides a safe learning environment for students and staff.

COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS

Outside support programs often work in collaboration with other community agencies to provide comprehensive services to students. This may include partnering with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to create a network of support for students.

Involvement of Parents and Families: Parents and families are essential stakeholders for any school violence prevention plan. Schools should involve them in identifying potential warning signs of violence, discussing any changes in behaviors observed, and discussing prevention strategies.

Creating a Supportive School Environment: A positive school culture encourages positive behavior. A supportive school environment can be created by addressing the needs of all students, encouraging positive peer relationships, and addressing bullying or harassment.

Formation of Multidisciplinary Teams: The formation of multidisciplinary teams that include teachers, school administrators, law enforcement officials, mental health professionals, and community members can brainstorm for early intervention strategies that can help prevent violence in and around schools.

School-Wide Programs: Evidence-based school-wide programs focusing on character development, conflict resolution, and social skills development can reduce the likelihood of violence.

Mental Health Services: Schools can provide mental health services such as counseling, support groups, and access to trained professionals to students experiencing emotional distress or those known to have a history of violent behavior.

Collaboration with Community Partners: Schools and their partners should collaborate with community groups such as law enforcement agencies, social service providers, and faith-based organizations to develop and implement effective violence prevention strategies.

Early Warning Systems: Early warning systems that track student absenteeism, behavior disruptions, or academic struggles can quickly alert educators to the need for additional support and intervention to help struggling students.

SCHOOLS CAN STRIVE TO PREVENT VIOLENCE

Violence prevention school services are programs and initiatives that schools implement to create safe and secure learning environments, free from aggression, harassment, bullying, and violence. These programs involve a range of services and interventions to address the causes and effects of violent behavior among students and promote non-violent solutions to conflict resolution. Some examples of violence prevention services in schools are:

Counseling Services – Schools can offer mental health counseling services for students who are struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. These services can help to identify and address underlying mental health issues that may

contribute to violent behavior.

Mental health support for students who may be experiencing emotional or behavioral problems related to violence or trauma.

Conflict Resolution Programs – Schools can teach students techniques for resolving conflicts through peaceful means,

such as mediation and negotiation. These programs can help to reduce tensions and prevent violent confrontations.

Bullying Prevention Programs – Schools can implement programs to address bullying, which can help to prevent the development of violent behaviors.

Safety Drills – Schools can conduct regular safety drills, such as lockdown and evacuation drills, to prepare students, teachers, and staff for potential emergency situations.

Law Enforcement Partnerships – Schools can work closely with local law enforcement agencies to monitor and prevent violent behavior on campus. This partnership can include regular patrols, resource officer presence, and communication and coordination in case of an emergency.

Classroom-based prevention instruction to educate students about healthy relationships, communication, and self-esteem.

Physical security measures such as surveillance cameras, metal detectors, and security personnel.

Programs and activities to foster positive school climate and promote respect, tolerance, and empathy.

Reporting and response procedures for students, staff, and parents to report and address incidents of violence or bullying.

Collaborative efforts with community organizations, law enforcement agencies, and mental health professionals to provide additional support and resources.

Violence prevention school services play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and inclusive school environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By implementing these measures, schools can create a safer environment for students and staff, and work towards preventing violent incidents on and off campus.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

S.O.S's program aims to address and resolve issues that arise between students involved in acts of violence and their parents. This program recognizes that violence within schools can be a symptom of deeper problems and seeks to provide necessary support and guidance to both the students and their parents in order to address these issues effectively.

The program starts by engaging with the students involved in violent incidents, as well as their parents. Trained counselors and mediators work with the students individually to understand the underlying factors that may contribute to their violent behavior. This could include a history of trauma, anger management issues, peer pressure, or other personal challenges. Through targeted interventions and counseling sessions, the program aims to help these students develop healthier coping mechanisms, improve their conflict resolution skills, and ultimately reduce their involvement in violence.

Simultaneously, the program also focuses on engaging with the parents or guardians of these students. Recognizing that family dynamics and environments play a crucial role in a child's behavior, the program offers various forms of support to parents. This may include parent education programs, counseling sessions, and workshops focused on positive discipline techniques, communication skills, and building stronger relationships within the family. By addressing any underlying issues within the family, the program aims to create a more supportive and nurturing environment for the students.

Furthermore, S.O.S. also facilitates communication and collaboration between the school, parents, and community stakeholders. Regular meetings are held to discuss the progress of the students and to ensure that everyone involved is working towards a common goal of violence prevention and intervention. The program may also involve other organizations or agencies to provide additional resources and services to support the students and their families.

Overall, S.O.S. strives to resolve issues between students involved in violence and their parents by providing targeted interventions and support. By addressing the root causes of violence and creating a supportive environment, the program aims to promote positive behavioral changes and reduce the likelihood of future incidents.

BIG BROTHER
MENTORING SERVICES

SOMEONE SEASONED TO TALK TO
2.png

It is important for young people to have someone they can turn to for guidance, support, and advice. A big brother figure can provide a positive influence in their lives and offer a listening ear when they need to talk about their struggles or concerns.

A big brother can offer mentorship, guidance, and encouragement to help young people navigate difficult situations and make positive choices. They can also serve as a role model and a source of wisdom and experience for the youth to learn from.

Having a big brother figure in their lives can make a significant difference in the overall well-being and development of young people, providing them with the support and encouragement they need to thrive and succeed. If you are a young person in need of someone to talk to, reach out to a trusted adult or mentor who can provide you with the support and guidance you need.

There is a complex relationship between school violence and mental health. Individuals who experience mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, or a history of trauma, may be more likely to exhibit violent behavior in a school setting. These issues can lead to feelings of anger, frustration, and isolation, which can manifest in violent acts.

Additionally, students who witness or experience violence at school may develop mental health problems as a result of the trauma they have experienced. This can create a vicious cycle where mental health issues contribute to violence, and violence, in turn, exacerbates mental health problems.

Furthermore, the lack of access to mental health resources and support in schools can also contribute to school violence. Students who are struggling with mental health issues may not receive the help they need, leading to an escalation of their symptoms and potentially violent behavior.

It is important for schools to address mental health issues among students, provide access to support services, and create a safe and inclusive environment to prevent and respond to instances of school violence. By promoting mental well-being and addressing mental health concerns, schools can help reduce the likelihood of violence occurring on their campuses.

There is a strong connection between school violence and suicide. Research has shown that individuals who are involved in or witness acts of school violence are at a higher risk of experiencing mental health issues, including depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, which can lead to thoughts of suicide. Additionally, those who are victims of bullying or harassment at school are more likely to consider or attempt suicide.

School violence can also contribute to a toxic and unsafe environment for students, leading to increased feelings of hopelessness and isolation. This can further exacerbate mental health issues and increase the risk of suicide among students.

It is important for schools to address and prevent school violence in order to create a safe and supportive environment for students, which can help protect against suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Schools can implement anti-bullying programs, mental health resources, and support systems for students who may be at risk of suicide.

STRIFE

I sit here in silence, filled with pain,
My heart broken, tears fall like rain,
You were my brother, my partner in crime,
But now you're gone and I'm left to rhyme.

Every day feels like a battlefield,
Memories of you refuse to yield,
I never thought I'd see this end,
My best friend taken by his own hand.

I wish I had known your pain,
I would have walked with you through the rain,
But now I'm left with sorrow,
Knowing for you there's no tomorrow.

I miss your laughter, your smiling face,
The way you lit up any place,
I try to make sense of it all,
But the pain still lingers, so raw and tall.

I hope you've found peace in the afterlife,
That your soul is free from strife,
I'll carry you in my heart forevermore,
My dear friend, until we meet on that distant shore.

I'll cherish our memories, our times together,
And hold onto them, through stormy weather,
You may be gone, but you'll never be forgotten,
My best friend, my brother, a soul begotten.
