Our mission is to empower and support students, educators, families, and the community in creating a safe and peaceful environment within our schools. Through education, awareness, and intervention, our school outside support group aims to put an end to violence in schools. We are dedicated to fostering empathy, respect, and positive relationships among students, advocating for peaceful conflict resolution strategies, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and understanding. Together, we strive to build a future where every student feels safe, valued, and able to reach their fullest potential in a violence-free school environment.

Our program envisions a school community where every student feels valued, respected, and supported. We believe that by implementing proactive measures, we can prevent violence and create a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Through our violence prevention program, we aim to educate students about conflict resolution, empathy, and effective communication. We want our students to develop the skills necessary to resolve conflicts peacefully, understand the impact of their actions, and treat others with kindness and compassion.
In collaboration with teachers, parents, and the wider community, we aim to establish a comprehensive support system for our students. This involves providing access to counseling services, mentorship programs, and other resources that promote mental health and well-being. We recognize that addressing the root causes of violence requires a holistic approach that addresses both individual and systemic factors.

THE POINT OF IT ALL
The goal of S.O.S.'s violence prevention program is to reduce and ultimately eliminate acts of violence by fostering safe, healthy, and peaceful communities. The program aims to prevent all types of violence, including domestic violence, youth violence, gun violence, and community violence. S.O.S. seeks to educate individuals, families, schools, and communities on violence prevention strategies and provide support to those who have been affected by violence.
The overall mission of a violence prevention organization is to reduce the incidence of violent behavior and promote safety and peace in communities. This can be accomplished through a variety of strategies, including:
Education and awareness: Providing information and resources to individuals, families, and communities about the dangers of violence, its causes, and how to prevent it.
Advocacy: Promoting policies and legislation that support violence prevention and intervention programs.
Intervention: Providing crisis counseling, mental health services, and other support to individuals and families affected by violence.
Community engagement: Building partnerships across communities and stakeholders to identify and address the root causes of violence, and implement effective solutions.
Ultimately, the goal of a violence prevention organization is to create a safer, healthier, and more equitable society where violence is not tolerated and individuals can thrive and create a culture of non-violence where conflicts are resolved in a peaceful and constructive manner and everyone can live free of fear and harm.

THRIVE
In environments of learning, young minds do thrive,
But oftentimes, violence takes a dive,
Bullying, abuse, and aggression reign,
Leaving scars that may forever remain.
Yet hope remains, if we seek to change,
If we work together, a new path to arrange,
Preventing violence in school, we can prevail,
Creating a safe haven, where all can prevail.
Let our words be kind, our actions benign,
And our attitudes, respectful and divine,
Let's reach out and help those in need,
And offer support, as we plant the seed.
A culture of peace, is what we aim for,
Where tolerance and acceptance are the core,
Where we can all thrive, without fear,
And every child feels cherished and dear.
So let's unite, and build a brighter place,
Where every student finds pride and grace,
To prevent violence in school, let's take a stand,
And walk together, with healing in hand.
AT RISK
They walk through life with heavy hearts,
This world has torn them apart.
Their hopes and dreams seem far away,
As they struggle just to face the day.
The streets are their home,
And the gangs their only roam.
They seek solace in drugs and booze,
These at-risk youth with nothing to lose.
Their parents are absent,
Or they were never present.
Left to fend for themselves,
No one to turn to for help.
Teachers and mentors try to lend a hand,
But it's not enough in a broken land.
They need love, support, and care,
For these at-risk youth, we must be there.
We need to show them a better way,
Give them hope for a brighter day.
With guidance and encouragement,
They can break free from this torment.
Let's build a world where they can thrive,
Where at-risk youth are truly alive.
Together we can make a difference,
And give these children a better existence.
STOP THE VIOLENCE
Stop the violence, it must end today,
Let's put an end to the price we all pay.
The world is full of too much hate,
We need to come together, before it's too late.
The streets are red with the blood of the innocent,
We need to change our ways, before it's permanent.
The weapons we use only add fuel to
the fire,
We must find a different way to inspire.
Love and understanding should be our guide,
Not anger and hatred that we can't hide.
Let's be kind and try to understand,
That violence never solves any problem on this land.
We are all human, with hopes and dreams,
But violence only tears at the seams.
Let's stand together and make a choice,
To live in a world where everyone has a voice.
So stop the violence, let love lead the way,
And let us work towards a better day.

#EXPRESSYOURSELF
FROM THE MOUTH OF A STUDENT
Today was a particularly tough day at school. The violence that I witnessed is still replaying in my mind, and I feel compelled to put my thoughts on paper as a way to process everything that happened. I hope that writing this journal entry can help me make some sense out of the chaos.
During first period, while I was sitting quietly at my desk, there was a sudden commotion outside the classroom. Curiosity got the better of me, so I peeked through the door to see what was going on. To my horror, I saw two students embroiled in a physical fight. Their fists were flying, and their expressions were filled with rage and hatred. It was a scene I never thought I would witness within the safe confines of our school.
Immediately, panic and fear consumed me. I could see other students gathering around, forming a chaotic circle, some cheering on the fight while others urged them to stop. I was torn between wanting to help and being afraid of getting involved in the violence. It was such a confusing and overwhelming moment for me.
The shock of witnessing such raw violence is still running through my veins. The sound of their punches landing, the gasps from onlookers, and the shouts of encouragement or protest are playing on a constant loop inside my head. It has deeply disturbed me to witness this level of aggression within my school, a place that should be a safe haven for learning and growth.
What saddens me the most is wondering what could have led these individuals to resort to violence. What drove them to inflict harm on one another? I ponder the potential underlying issues they might be facing, and how their experiences in life have shaped their attitudes and actions. It's a stark reminder that there are often hidden struggles that push people towards violence, and I wish we could find a way to address these issues before they escalate further.
Instances like today's make me question the state of our society. How have we reached a point where violence is becoming increasingly normalized? It scares me to think that some of my fellow students may be desensitized to such incidents or, even worse, that some see it as a form of entertainment.
I firmly believe that violence has no place in any educational environment. It's disheartening to realize that some students no longer feel safe in their own schools – a place where they should be encouraged to grow, thrive, and express themselves freely. We should be fostering an atmosphere of compassion, empathy, and understanding, not a breeding ground for aggression.
As I write these words, I hope for change. I hope that our school administrators and teachers take incidents like today's seriously and work towards implementing programs that address the root causes of violence. I hope that students come together to create a culture of respect and acceptance, where conflicts can be resolved peacefully through dialogue and understanding.
Reflecting on today's experience, I realize that we must all play a role in eradicating violence from our schools. We need to actively seek opportunities to promote kindness, tolerance, and empathy. I hope that by doing so, we can create the safe and nurturing environment that every student deserves.
Today's events have left me shaken, but they have also strengthened my determination to speak out against violence and strive for a better future.
